The Ponies Are Back! WIHS Shetland Pony Steeplechase Racing Returns to the Devon Horse Show on Memorial Day Weekend

WASHINGTON, May 27, 2022–The Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) is delighted to announce the return of the ever-popular WIHS Shetland Pony Steeplechase Championship Series to the Devon Horse Show after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.
Coinciding with the comeback of the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair in Devon, Pa., the Shetland Pony steeplechase series will kick off over Memorial Day Weekend in the Dixon Oval with lively racing on Sunday, May 29, and Monday, May 30, 2022. The series final will be held at the Washington International Horse Show, Oct. 24-30.
Adding to the fun, the #PonyPower Sweepstakes will offer prizes for two lucky participants in the sweepstakes who pick the correct winners.
The races feature miniature mounts with their junior jockeys. When first introduced at WIHS in 2013, the Washington Post declared the races to be “D.C.’s newest, and cutest sport.”

Big Changes Coming for WIHS 2022
The 64th Annual Washington International Horse Show will return to the Washington, D.C. area as a newly approved FEI Five-Star Event, with an expanded schedule, an additional day of competition, and increased prize money.
A prestigious event on the international equestrian calendar since 1958, WIHS will feature the $406,000 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Washington CSI5*-W for the President’s Cup, WIHS Equitation Finals for top qualified juniors, WIHS Children’s and Adult Championships, the $25,000 Puissance high jump, top hunters from throughout the country, plus exhibitions, entertainment, VIP hospitality and special events, including WIHS Kids’ Day and Barn Night.
WIHS 2022 will be held Oct. 24-30 at The Show Place Arena at Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, Md.
