The WIHS Shetland Pony Steeplechase Championship Series is 
an exciting racing series for young jockeys on Shetland ponies, featuring miniature hurdles. The premier races are held each year at the Devon Horse Show in May and a final at the Washington International Horse Show in October.

2026 Events: Devon Horse Show & Country Fair, Devon, PA (Sunday, May 24 & Monday, May 25) and Washington International Horse Show, Upper Marlboro, MD (Friday, October 23) 
Participants: Features junior jockeys riding fast, small Shetland ponies over, small-scale steeplechase jumps. The races highlight the speed and agility of Shetland ponies and the skills of their young riders.

History: Shetland Pony Racing was first introduced at the 2013 Washington International Horse Show and quickly gained popularity and dubbed by The Washington Post as “the newest & cutest sport in the D.C. area”.

U.S. Pony Racing is dedicated to bringing horse and pony flat and jump race riding opportunities and education to young and amateur riders of all ability levels. USPR offers low or no-cost clinics to pony clubs, fox hunting clubs, 4-H, and other groups, and also provides unmounted educational opportunities to the general public, all of which are led by top trainers and riders in the steeplechase and flat racing industries.
