Congratulations to Rachel Boggus, 32, of Fort Wayne, IN, who shot to the top of the WIHS Adult Jumper standings as of March 14 with a big win during Week 7 of WEF, where she bested a field of 44 to earn 1,100 points.

Rachel competes on Wiedam “Weeds,” her 11-year-old Selle Francais gelding, which she’s had since 2007. Their partnership nearly derailed two years ago when following a serious paddock accident, Weeds was given a 30% of ever being ridden again. Rachel recalls she was committed to do whatever it took to help him. Happily, following treatment and a long, slow recovery, Weeds is back in top form and earning points for the Finals at Verizon Center, where she hopes to improve on their 11th place finish last year with an unlucky rail in the first round.  “He was perfect for me from the first time I tried him and really loves being ridden. I’ll never sell him ~ he’s with me for life,” she said.

A medical doctor by profession, Rachel has to balance the demands of her career with her passion for horses and showing. “It’s extremely difficult and sometimes overwhelming, but to do this sport, I have to work very hard.” In addition to adult jumpers, she competes in equitation and hunters, with the guidance of trainer Abigail Blankenship. Congratulations Rachel!
