WIHS Barn Night 2022 is thinking green with new contests and great prizes. Reducing carbon ‘hoofprints’ to protect the planet starts at the barn! Take strides and Gallop Green to share your eco-friendly creativity and win great prizes!

The Washington International Horse Show, in partnership with Green is the New Blue, invites barns and other horse-loving clubs and groups to join in the fun on Barn Night, Thursday, October 27. 

Enter our Gallop Green group contests for a chance to win great prizes! Contest winners will be announced throughout the evening.

Groups will be judged subjectively by a panel of judges traveling the stands and concourse throughout the evening so plan to come and show your group spirit! Greens and blues- show your spirit in your best “earth” tones and recycled costumes. Winners will be announced during Barn Night

Build a jump with recycled materials or create an environmentally friendly ‘living jump.’

Barn Night posters entries must represent a barn, equestrian center or riding school, and encourage green practices. Posters should appeal to a broad horse-loving audience.

  • Be creative; have fun, but in good taste. Poster should capture the personality and special traits of your barn or riding program.
  • Message may be delivered by picture(s), other graphics and designs and/or a slogan
  • Size/material: Posters should be no smaller than 10” x 14” and no larger than 24” x 36” and we recommend posters be created on poster board or foam board.
  • Email a photo of the poster entry to lara@wihs.org by the deadline, October 17.
  • Bring completed posters to The Show Place Arena by 6:15 p.m. on October 27  to be displayed on easels in the designated area on the concourse during the show. (WIHS to provide easels.)
  • One entry per barn, club or group.
  • Do NOT use photographs, images, graphics, etc., that infringe on someone else’s copyright or trademark.
  • Photographs of participants and posters may be taken and used in WIHS promotional materials.


Poster Judging

  • Entries will be judged on originality, design, artwork, adherence to theme, and message.
  • Artistic merit is important.
  • Judging will take place during Barn Night, Thursday, October 27, while hung in the designated area on the concourse.
  • The decision of the judges is final.
  • Judging will be completed by 7:00 p.m. when groups will be allowed to take posters into the seating area.


Best Video Contest

Barn Night video entries must represent a barn, equestrian center or riding school and encourage green practices at the ‘barn’ and/or at a show.

How to Enter:

  • Upload your video entry to YouTube.com. (Videos must comply with all YouTube regulations.)
  • Email the video link and the video file in .mp4 format to lara@wihs.org with email subject line “Barn Night Video
    Contest Submission,” by the deadline, October 17.
  • A barn representative must be present at WIHS to win.
  • The top three videos will be shown on The Show Place Arena’s video board during Barn Night


Video Rules
 

  • Video may be in any style (documentary, animation, live action, etc.)
  • Video must be in English
  • Video length: Two minutes maximum including titles.
  • One entry per barn, club or group.
  • Registration forms must include the signature of an adult, if submitter is under age 18.
  • If music used, video entry must include music credit.
  • Video entry must be your original work and not previously published.
  • Video Submissions must not contain any elements of music, audio, speech/voiceover or other audiovisual material that is protected by someone else’s copyright or trade secret
    or otherwise subject to third party rights.
  • The top 3-5 Video Contest finalists may be asked to submit their videos via a file sharing
    site such as WeTransfer, or Dropbox, as a QuickTime file in full resolution.


Important Notes

  • Employees and independent contractors of WIHS are not eligible to enter.
  • No video submissions will be returned.
  • Privacy: Finalists and winners may be publicly identified by name and town.
  • Video submissions must adhere to the norms of civil discourse and must be suitable for
    viewing by individuals of any age and not contain profanity.
  • All participants in the WIHS Video Contest give the rights to the Washington International
    Horse Show to use, without limitation.
