Dear Exhibitors,
Leadership at the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) continually looks to evolve with the sport and make adjustments based on feedback from competitors, trainers, and stakeholders. WIHS is currently considering a change to the format of WIHS Equitation qualifying classes offered nationwide, as well as for the WIHS Equitation Finals. The format change would entail the Hunter Phase taking place over a handy hunter-style course rather than over a traditional hunter course.
We believe the new format will enhance the qualifying classes throughout the competition year and at the Finals. Following this consultation period, if warranted, the WIHS will update the language of the change and submit a rule change proposal to enact this new format. Since this proposal will follow the path of a standard rule change, to enact a new format for the 2026 Finals and related qualifying classes which begin on September 1, 2025, WIHS will request a presidential modification of the existing rule to permit the use of the new format.
We welcome your feedback and suggestions about this potential format adjustment to the WIHS Equitation Hunter Phase. Please email us at info@wihs.org no later than June 30, 2025, with your thoughts.
Thank you, and we appreciate your support of WIHS!
