(Washington, DC) ‘ October 10, 2007 ‘ The Washington International Horse Show (WIHS), a 501(c)(3)
charitable organization benefiting local and national
charities, hosted the first Jumper classes of the WIHS
late this afternoon, sponsored by Dennis and Mary K Shaughnessy. Fourteen riders competed in the highly competitive $2,500 Amateur Owner Jumper (TFJO) class, in which only one horse and rider combination went clean. Marley Goodman, riding U-2, won the round with a time of 59.226 seconds and no faults. The second place rider, Gabby Slome, aboard Salsa, accrued four faults during her ride, but beat out the rest of the pack with her time of 58.556. Tracey Weinberg, riding Larone, placed third in the class with a time of 59.045 seconds.
The $10,000 WIHS Children’s Jumper Championship proved to
be one of the most competitive classes of the night with
15 riders qualifying for the jump off. Of those 15 who
went clean in the first round, five riders went clean
during the jump off. Abigail Mcardle, riding Calvin,
completed the course cleanly in 27.722 seconds. She was
the last rider to compete in the class, beating out Amelia
Rodgers on Demark, who had a time of 28.915 in the second
round. Catherin Tyree, riding Hunter De Laume finished
third after the jump off with a time of 33.001. Laura
King-Kaplan, riding Harlem De Mescam placed fourth with a
time of 33.393, Stephanie Dubois-Emo finished fifth with a
time of 34.598 second, and Erin Hickey placed sixth with
four faults and a time of 29.339 seconds.
During the WIHS Adult Jumper Championships, 13 riders rode
cleanly during the first round of competition, earning the
right to compete in the jump off. Ten of those 13 riders
went clean during the jump off, with Virginia McNeil,
riding Flying Dutchman, posting the winning time of 30.359
seconds. Tracey Mack, aboard Lucky Four, clinched second
place with a time of 30.630, and Eleanor Bright and Rosey
were third, with a time of 30.980. Fourth place went to
Emily Straw Colella, riding Filibuster, who posted a time
of 31.100, Kick the Clouds and Rebecca Forbes finished
fifth with a time of 31.374, and sixth place went to
Katrina Weinig on Cortina with a time of 31.743.
