(Washington, DC) ‘ October 9, 2007 ‘ The Washington
International Horse Show (WIHS), a 501 (c)(3) charitable
organization benefiting local and national charities, will
donate seven hundred tons of the 2007 WIHS arena footing
to the Mounted U.S. Park Police, valued at $14,500. The
donated footing, called lime sand, is a mixture of lime
stone siftings and sand. The mixture is specially
designed to cushion the horses’ steps, allowing them to
compete with minimal impact to their legs and bodies.

The WIHS will ceremoniously present the Mounted U.S. Park
Police with a small portion of the footing during ‘Lunch
with the Mounted U.S. Park Police,’ taking place
Wednesday, October 10 at 11 a.m. at the intersection of
6th and F Street. Six U.S. Park Police horses will travel
to the Verizon Center to feast on DC’s greatest stand-up
vegetarian buffet of apples, carrots, hay and water.

‘The Washington International Horse Show is pleased to
make this contribution to the Mounted U.S. Park Police as
a token of our appreciation for their 30-year commitment
to the show as the presenters of the colors during opening
ceremonies each year,’ said Susan Webb, Executive Director
for the WIHS.
