KIND WINS AT WIHS

Washington International Horse Show is excited to introduce the “Kind Wins” campaign. This initiative brings an inspiring anti-bullying movement from Sweden to the U.S., supported by Friends, a Swedish anti-bullying organization. With guidance from the WIHS Junior Committee and our Swedish partners, “Kind Wins” will be promoting positivity, good mental health and preventing bullying. Our goal is to foster a positive atmosphere for everyone, first-time fans, competitors, trainers, parents, local equestrians, and grooms while encouraging open communication, inclusivity, and a shared love for horses.

Join us in celebrating Kind Wins all year long!

KIND WINS MATERIALS

Know Your Impact:

I pledge to be mindful of my words and actions, understanding that they can uplift or hurt others.

Include Others:

I will respect each rider, horse, and everyone within the equine community, especially those who may feel left out or isolated, to ensure no one feels alone.

Notice and Act:

I will be vigilant against any form of bullying and will take action by speaking up or reporting it, refusing to remain a passive bystander.

Defend and Support:

I pledge to stand up for those who are being bullied, offering my support and letting them know they are not alone.

Together, we can foster a joyful and supportive environment where both equestrians and horses flourish. I proudly wear this Kind Wins pin as a symbol of my commitment to creating an industry rooted in respect and positivity.

The Annual Kind Wins Award was created to celebrate someone or a group who brings attention to anti-bullying and spreading kindness within the equestrian community.

HELPFUL RESOURCES

Bullying has been a reoccurring societal problem for a very long time. It has only been worsened by social media and what is known as cyberbullying. Many people have witnessed bullying, or have even been victims themselves. This campaign would be able to advocate for positivity and anti-bullying measures in the equestrian community. With the proper resources offered, this campaign can help to bring a stop to bullying in the hunter/jumper community, and make the equestrian industry more welcoming to people of all ages.”

"Bullying is a huge problem among those of the younger generation and can be especially prominent in our sport. A survey among our WIHS Junior Committee members revealed that 90% have witnessed bullying, 40% shared it was a very important issue, and responses indicated additional support and resources could help with bullying occurring in school. I really believe Kind Wins can be the support we need to stop and prevent bullying in the horse community as well as to support riders in school or other places where they may face adversity."
