Applications for the 2010 WIHS Youth Ambassador have closed. The new youth ambassador will be announced by June 1.

 

In 2009 Washington International Horse Show had its first ever Youth Ambassador (YA). We will continue this program in 2010 and accept applications for the position. Our new Youth Ambassador will be named in June and the will hold the title until the conclusion of the show on October 31.

 Requirements

The YA must be a student between the ages of 14 and 18. Candidates should be a rider but does not need horse show experience. They should be well versed in the horse world and understand and be able to articulate when asked questions about the show or classes at the show. They should be comfortable with the press, TV, Radio and Print and active in Social Media.

 Commitments

The YA will need to work in the WIHS office located in Georgetown at least once a week during the summer and be available more frequently during the months of September and October. The YA will need to attend the show which runs from October 26-31 at Verizon Center. The YA will have opportunities to attend business meetings and conference calls and be in a position to present ideas and concepts to the team. During the show the YA will give tours, attend events, present ribbons, meet with press, and do interviews. There could be various show-related duties such as assistance with guests, show operations and media. There will also be opportunities to view and enjoy the show.

The first Youth Ambassador was Jamal Brown. He was fantastic and will aid us in finding the next YA. He will also serve as a mentor. Jamal was featured in Kids Post, John Kelly’s Washington, on cable and internet broadcasts, news radio, and local television. Jamal helped build our youth events, presented ribbons, did autographing sessions, gave VIP tours and worked hand in hand with the staff in various ways in ensure the success of the 2009 show.

There will be a transportation stipend. This commitment could be eligible for community service credit.
